If you are unable to join the Professional LLM or Graduate Diploma program in the term you were admitted to you may  be eligible to request a deferral to a future cycle. The below policy is relevant to students who were admitted in Fall 2025 or later.

Please Note:

Deferral requests must be made through the Application Portal.

To be eligible to receive a deferral you must meet all of the following criteria:

Program: You may only request to defer into the same program and activity level (full-time/part-time) as your original offer. Program changes cannot be accomplished through a deferral.

Term: Deferrals are only granted to the next term (not next year) that your program is offered. Some programs are offered as frequently as twice a year in Fall and Winter, others as infrequently as once every two years.

Previous Deferrals: Deferrals are granted on a one-time basis. If you have previously had any type of deferral request approved, you will not be able to defer a second time.

Standing: You must be in good standing (meaning that you have an active offer of admission, which you have accepted) in order to receive a deferral. If your offer of admission has been rescinded or withdrawn, you are not eligible for a deferral.

Timing of Request:   You must request a deferral no later than 14 days before the start date on your letter.  Requests made less than 14 days before your start date will not be approved.

Additional Criteria for Full-Time Students: Your enrollment deposit must be paid. Your enrollment deposit will remain on file and be subject to the terms of our enrollment deposit policy.

Additional Criteria for General Law Students: Because not all specializations start every term, a deferral may not be possible. General Law students’ requests are subject to Manager approval.

Additional Criteria for Students with Language Test Condition: To be eligible for a deferral you must clear your language test requirement by your original deadline. If your language test is outstanding, your deferral request will be ‘approved in theory’ however, a new offer letter will not be issued until you have cleared your language test condition. If you fail to complete your language condition requirement by the deadline of your offer current of admission will be rescinded and you will be ineligible to defer.
